  • There is a lot you can do to help the environment. I agree with everything Lily said below. Try to limit waste and reuse whenever possible. Use less water and try not to waste food. Compost and recycle. These are all easy things you can do every day to help save the environment. You can raise and donate money towards causes that help the environment, and encourage friends and family to help the environment too. Here are a couple of helpful posts.

    Hope this was helpful!
Sister to Sister: A Few Ways to Help the Environment
Do you ever find yourself feeling helpless when faced with the huge issue of global warming? I know that I often do. In a world that seems to be…
    • ^^^^ you can also participate in plastic free July!
It doesn’t matter that you were only 11, because this is your future! One of the biggest environmental movements was started by a 16-year-old and that was striking from school for the climate. This is still going on during the summer, so if your interested you can look up Fridays for the future. I’ll try to find the map that shows where all the strikes are and put the link.
      Plastic Free July
I know I already have a board about saving the environment, but I wanted to make this one as well. (Sorry it’s a day late.) Plastic Free July is a Gl…
  • start a club with others who want to help too. im 10 and i raise money for endangered animals and pets with cancer . people will give you money if they see it is for a good cuse trust me it works
  • One way to make a difference is to be careful with what you use and throw away. For instance, instead of using plastic cups and straws at restaurants, bring your own reusable cups/bottles and ask the waiter, waitress, or cashier to put your drink in there instead. Also, you can try to recycle as much as you can, depending on what your county allows to be recycled. Another thing to do is to use less water. Only use your washing machine and dishwasher for full loads, keep the water off while you brush your teeth, and take shorter showers. Finally, encourage your friends and family to encourage everyone they know, plus themselves, to do the same!
    • ^^^^
I have to add that recycling isn’t the answer, because only 9% of plastic gets recycled, and for the most part it takes more energy to recycle things than make more. That’s not to say you shouldn’t recycle, but it’s not the solution.
Something that is very under recognized is composting- it eliminates a ton of waste and has a very small environmental impact.
      • There are also two extra R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, *Repair, and Refuse*. Fix up broken things, and turn down wasteful offers!

Online Schoolwork Help

When I’m doing online schoolwork, it’s really easy to get off task. How can I keep myself from procrastinating?     —Anonymous  Hi! Procrastination and distraction are both things I’ve struggled with in the past, so speaking as someone who’s been homeschooled my whole life (not just since COVID!), and has *mostly* conquered these issues, I’ll do my best to help! First, prioritizing. There is only so much time in the day, so we need to figure out what are the most important things to do in that…

Staying Committed to a Story

I find it really hard to keep motivated while writing. I often am really excited about a story I start writing, but after a couple paragraphs I lose motivation and never continue the story. Any advice? -Anonymous I completely understand this! I am currently in the process of trying to stick to the longest story I’ve ever attempted. In the past, I’ve stuck to poetry and short stories for this very reason, but I’m trying to push myself with this project during quarantine! Here are a few tips…

Getting Through Quarantine Without Seeing Friends

How do I get through the corona quarantine without seeing my friends? -Sophia   Ah, the question of the season! I’m really glad you asked this, Sophia, because it’s a very important topic that so many of us are struggling with right now.  First, I would like to direct you to a blog post about staying connected in quarantine that one of my awesome fellow S2S mentors, Paige, wrote just a few days ago! She already did a great job on this topic, so this won’t be a super detailed answer, but you…

Crushes & Coming Out!

So I was wondering how to give a letter to your crush. even though they already know it's you. Please know that these are all very personal things and that you ultimately get to make the decision on what you'd like to do! It's not up to me, your friends,…

Ask A Girl: Need advice? Give great advice? We help each other! Ask your questions or answer any of the questions already here. Your post will appear in a day or two, so check back often. We've had many girls ask if their questions can be anonymous, and that is not possible on this website. We want you to know that girls in NMG can trust each other, even with embarrassing questions. And if you want to, you can change your user name to a "not real" name that will then also be used in the magazine if your Ask A Girl question is published.

Letters To Luna: I'm Luna, the spirit of New Moon. Write a letter to me with your opinions and suggestions about the magazine and website. I love to read all your notes! Because I get so many letters, I can't reply online. But a select few letters get published in each issue!

Body & Feelings: Body image, mood swings, puberty, your first period, and so much more! The information girls need!

Check It Out: Share your rants and raves about books, magazines, movies, products, music, ads, tv, internet and more. Love it? Hate it? Let us know!

For The Curious: How does stuff in our world happen? Post and ask about experiments, tech, coding, math,  science, engineering, and more!  It's all about the weird, wonderful, and wacky! Be curious and be surprised.

Go Girls & Women Change the World: Amazing girls and women make the world a better place every day. Tell us about who you admire - now and from the past.  These don't have to be people who are already famous!

How Aggravating & Howl at the Moon: Tell us when you see something that's unfair to girls and women -you can vent about it here! And, Howl out your accomplishments and the things that make you proud as a person and a girl!

Love Remembers: Whether it's losing a beloved pet or a cherished person, loss is painful and can be difficult to cope with. But talking about our loved ones and keeping their memories alive can help. Share your beautiful memories here.

Random Stuff: Want a place to be silly, start message board games, or talk about stuff that doesn't fit into the other categories? Then check out this message board!

Role Play: Do you like role playing games? RPG’s are games where players (that’s you!) play the roles of characters in a fictional setting and have all kinds of adventures. See where the stories take you!

Voice Box: We can have different opinions and still be friends and listen respectfully to each other. We're interested to learn about other people's points of view and we don't have to try to convince them to think like we do. This is where we share opinions about issues that are important to us.

Contests & Games: Do you love creating new contests or games for everyone to play? Do you love playing in them? This is the place for you to make your own contests and games and invite everyone to participate! Remember, just like everywhere else on, if you make a contest or game, it must be open to everyone who wants to join in!
