Hey guys! I don't know if anyone remembers, but last year I made a drawing contest, and it went really well, so I was thinking of doing it again.

VERY IMPORTANT!: You do not have to be *good* at drawing, or have to use a particular style. Everything is welcome, including doodles and stetches. One of the coolest things about this is getting to see all different art peices.

So, how it works:

I'll PM* everyone a DIFFERENT emotion (sadness, joy, surprise, etc.) then you have to draw what makes you think of that emotion.

If anyone is interested/curious here is the link to last years contest:

http://www.nmgmembers.com/messageboards/emotion-a-drawing-contest

Deadline: July 30th 2019

Rules:

All entries just be tagged "Emotion; A drawing Contest (year two)"

ONE entry per person

Please include what your emotion was in the title of your entry when you post it

Leave a link in the comments to you entry

Obviously keep everything NMG appropriate

All entrys must be submitted by July 30th August 4th

Up to 15 people can enter

Don't tell anyone what your emotion is (people will find out when you post your entry with a title of your emotion)

I will be judging based on:

How much emotion shows

Creativety and uniqueness

I will chose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Spots and contestants:

1. Julia//

2. Ella Jo//  Art peice //  Interest

  • First off, I'd like to say that everyone's entries were all amazing and creative. I loved them all, and had a really hard time choosing, so even though I wasn’t planning to, I decided to have three runner-ups also. Thank you all so much for joining, I had a lot of fun with this. :)

    *very loud dramatic drum rolling*

    *clears throat*

    THIRD RUNNER UP:
Eli, and their drawing of calmness. (http://www.nmgmembers.com/drawing-painting/image-660?context=contri... )
I really love the peaceful vibe your drawing gives off. <3 Her expression is so calm, and I love all the sayings you chose for around her.

    SECOND RUNNER UP:
Sophia(sparkle), and her drawing of fear. (http://www.nmgmembers.com/drawing-painting/untitled-artwork-71 )
I love how you drew the ghosts, they really add to the drawing and showing the emotion. Also her expression is perfect, and I really love the background you did.

    FIRST RUNNER UP:
Tori, and her drawing of sadness. (http://www.nmgmembers.com/drawing-painting/d1f8fefb-6017-4071-b968-... )
Your drawing really expresses sadness.I love what you chose to represent your emotion. The colors and smoke are sad, and make the drawing beautiful in a way.

    THIRD PLACE:
Grace(fruit), and her drawing of sympathy. (http://www.nmgmembers.com/drawing-painting/b0b14c7d-33b3-4833-b3b2-... )
I love what you chose to represent sympathy. The two people sitting together and holding each other is perfect. I also really love your background, and all the beautiful colors.

    SECOND PLACE:
Anwen, and her drawing of awkwardness. (http://www.nmgmembers.com/drawing-painting/3d09dde9-600c-45d2-8a98-... )
First off, I love the way you wrote around the people, making the background darker, and adding a really cool feel to the drawing. The way you drew everyone, is perfect for the emotion.

    FIRST PLACE:
Freida, and her drawing of love. (http://www.nmgmembers.com/drawing-painting/for-amelias-contest?cont... )
You’re drawing is so sweet. Your dog's expression is adorable, and the way you’re both cuddling shows how much you love her. The gentle background and words above really add a perfect touch.

And there you have it!! Congrats to everyone, and thank you all again for participating!

Online Schoolwork Help

When I’m doing online schoolwork, it’s really easy to get off task. How can I keep myself from procrastinating?     —Anonymous  Hi! Procrastination and distraction are both things I’ve struggled with in the past, so speaking as someone who’s been homeschooled my whole life (not just since COVID!), and has *mostly* conquered these issues, I’ll do my best to help! First, prioritizing. There is only so much time in the day, so we need to figure out what are the most important things to do in that…

Staying Committed to a Story

I find it really hard to keep motivated while writing. I often am really excited about a story I start writing, but after a couple paragraphs I lose motivation and never continue the story. Any advice? -Anonymous I completely understand this! I am currently in the process of trying to stick to the longest story I’ve ever attempted. In the past, I’ve stuck to poetry and short stories for this very reason, but I’m trying to push myself with this project during quarantine! Here are a few tips…

Getting Through Quarantine Without Seeing Friends

How do I get through the corona quarantine without seeing my friends? -Sophia   Ah, the question of the season! I’m really glad you asked this, Sophia, because it’s a very important topic that so many of us are struggling with right now.  First, I would like to direct you to a blog post about staying connected in quarantine that one of my awesome fellow S2S mentors, Paige, wrote just a few days ago! She already did a great job on this topic, so this won’t be a super detailed answer, but you…

So I was wondering how to give a letter to your crush. even though they already know it's you. Please know that these are all very personal things and that you ultimately get to make the decision on what you'd like to do! It's not up to me, your friends,…

Ask A Girl: Need advice? Give great advice? We help each other! Ask your questions or answer any of the questions already here. Your post will appear in a day or two, so check back often. We've had many girls ask if their questions can be anonymous, and that is not possible on this website. We want you to know that girls in NMG can trust each other, even with embarrassing questions. And if you want to, you can change your user name to a "not real" name that will then also be used in the magazine if your Ask A Girl question is published.

Letters To Luna: I'm Luna, the spirit of New Moon. Write a letter to me with your opinions and suggestions about the magazine and website. I love to read all your notes! Because I get so many letters, I can't reply online. But a select few letters get published in each issue!

Body & Feelings: Body image, mood swings, puberty, your first period, and so much more! The information girls need!

Check It Out: Share your rants and raves about books, magazines, movies, products, music, ads, tv, internet and more. Love it? Hate it? Let us know!

For The Curious: How does stuff in our world happen? Post and ask about experiments, tech, coding, math,  science, engineering, and more!  It's all about the weird, wonderful, and wacky! Be curious and be surprised.

Go Girls & Women Change the World: Amazing girls and women make the world a better place every day. Tell us about who you admire - now and from the past.  These don't have to be people who are already famous!

How Aggravating & Howl at the Moon: Tell us when you see something that's unfair to girls and women -you can vent about it here! And, Howl out your accomplishments and the things that make you proud as a person and a girl!

Love Remembers: Whether it's losing a beloved pet or a cherished person, loss is painful and can be difficult to cope with. But talking about our loved ones and keeping their memories alive can help. Share your beautiful memories here.

Random Stuff: Want a place to be silly, start message board games, or talk about stuff that doesn't fit into the other categories? Then check out this message board!

Role Play: Do you like role playing games? RPG’s are games where players (that’s you!) play the roles of characters in a fictional setting and have all kinds of adventures. See where the stories take you!

Voice Box: We can have different opinions and still be friends and listen respectfully to each other. We're interested to learn about other people's points of view and we don't have to try to convince them to think like we do. This is where we share opinions about issues that are important to us.

Contests & Games: Do you love creating new contests or games for everyone to play? Do you love playing in them? This is the place for you to make your own contests and games and invite everyone to participate! Remember, just like everywhere else on NMGMembers.com, if you make a contest or game, it must be open to everyone who wants to join in!
